GILLIAN CHADSEY is a performer, transformer, author, interpreter, and producer of raw material. Having earned a B.A. degree in performance and writing from Emerson College, and accumulated 20 years experience of devising and performing her own work across the globe, Gillian has incorporated filmmaking in her creative practice in recent years, adopting a fiercely independent DYI approach. Her techniques range widely: including stop-action animation, real-time video and work based on live-feed channeling. Most recently, Gillian has participated in the creation of  independent, collaboratively developed video works:  “No money! No food! No Jewels!” with Eve Sussman and Simon Lee at EMPAC, and BROKER with Jenn and Kevin McCoy now showing at Postmasters Gallery in NYC.

 

As an actor, her work has run the gamut from Butoh dance to Tennessee Williams from Michlowice, Poland to middle America repertory theater. For six years, she was a company member of Rhodessa Jones' Theater for Incarcerated Women working in the California Federal Prisons. Most recently, with WaxFactory, she has co-created #aspellforfainting in which she was featured as the solo performer. Other WaxFactory collaborations include PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER (The Invisible Dog, The BRICK, 3LD), BLIND.NESS at Performance Space 122 (PS122) and Cankarjev dom (Slovenia) , DELIRIUM 27 at Abrons Arts Center, and the feature length film 416 MINUTES.

 

As a The South Wing Theatre company member, she has performed Eponya's Labyrinth at HERE, The Gospel According to Jack Vitrolo at HERE, AOI! at Japan Society, DiVL! at LMCC Swing Space, Hanjo Redux at CRS, NYC & La Bellone, Brussels; and Saudade at HERE Art Center. Other New York sightings include Mary Cheney in Inverse Theater's WHAT ARE YOU THINKING MARY CHENEY?, Tammy Faye Bakker in Lear DeBessonet’s DEATH MIGHT BE YOUR SANTA CLAUS, Vanya in Uncle Vanya with The TEAM at Classic Stage Company, directed by Rachel Chavkin, and in GO! with San Francisco's The Train Station.

 

As a collaborative artist she has had residencies at: EMPC, The Watermill Center, NaCL, HERE Art Center, E/Merge, the Field, and La Bellone in Brussels.

 

As a writer she has performed her solo pieces I AM HERE BENEATH MYSELF and FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE at Triskelion Arts and The Exit theater in San Francisco.

 

Two of her pieces, FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE and SPELL FOR FAINTING were invited Mendoza, Argentina as part of the ILOVEMZ festival.
